Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer fired a 3-under 67 to jump into a share of the Senior British Open lead with American Mark Wiebe on Friday at Royal Birkdale.

Langer, the 2010 Senior British champ, had five birdies, but dropped two shots at No. 6 after he double-hit the ball.

"The ball was sitting up in the long grass and I caught it high on the clubface and again on the follow through," said Langer. "But that was my only blemish. Most of it was impressive and good, and I putted a little better today."

Both Wiebe and Langer are at 5 under for the tournament, with Wiebe picking up four back-nine birdies for a late surge heading into the weekend in Southport, England.

"I really got my irons zoned in on the back nine," Wiebe said. "I know there's a long way to go, but I'm tickled to be where I am. It was unbelievable and great to shoot the low round."

David Frost is one back after a 2-under 68, while playing competitor Tom Watson fired a 1-over 71 to trail by nine shots. Defending champion Fred Couples will play the weekend despite sitting at 6 over for the tournament after a second-round 72.

Gene Sauers, the overnight leader, sits two shots back, T-4 with Peter Fowler and Mark McNulty.
