Tiger Woods has announced that he will not play in the AT&T National because of a left-elbow strain. Woods made the announcement Tuesday on his website.

According to that statement, Woods had his elbow examined after returning from the U.S. Open at Merion and doctors advised him to take a few weeks off for rest and treatment. He said he still plans to play the British Open, which will begin July 18 at Muirfield.

While the AT&T is out, Woods, together with Nike stablemate Rory McIlroy, will play in the Dubai Desert Classic in 2014 when the tournament marks its 25th year.

Both skipped the tournament last year to play the Abu Dhabi Championship. Woods has twice won the Dubai event, and McIlroy notched his first professional victory there at age 19.

Woods says he has “really good memories” of playing in the $2.5 million tournament, which will run from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2.

McIlroy adds he’s looking forward to returning to the event, adding that it “will be fun to be part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the tournament.”
