Ogilvy, Howell have yet to secure Masters invitations
Fredrik Jacobson saves par on the eighth green in the second round of the NorthernTrust Open golf tournament at Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
The Florida Swing is drawing to a close, as are opportunities to qualify for this year’s Masters. Players can earn invitations to Augusta National by winning one of the next three PGA Tour events or being in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking on April 1.
Next week’s Shell Houston Open will be the final chance for players to earn Masters invitations via the OWGR.
Eight players ranked between Nos. 45-60 in the OWGR have yet to secure Masters invitations, including No. 50 Geoff Ogilvy. He finished 51st in the final OWGR of 2012; the top 50 at year’s end also earn Masters invitations. Ogilvy is making his first Arnold Palmer Invitational appearance since 2008, when he tied for 14th.
Augusta native Charles Howell III, No. 57 in the OWGR, also has yet to earn an invitation to this year’s Masters. Howell tied for 20th at Bay Hill last year.
Ogilvy, Howell, No. 58 Henrik Stenson and No. 60 Greg Chalmers are competing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, while No. 55 Alexander Noren and No. 59 Thongchai Jaidee are playing the Maybank Malaysian Open.
