ORLANDO, Fla. -- They say it isn't how you start, it's how you finish.

In Tiger Woods' case Friday, he started way better than he finished. Woods shot 5 under through his first 15 holes during the second round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but he closed with bogeys on Nos. 16-18 to finish with a 2-under 70.

He'll enter the weekend at 5 under, five shots back of leaders Bill Haas and Justin Rose, who both sit at 9 under. Haas shot 66 Friday while Rose fired a 70.

Woods hit two balls in the water on Friday, including at the par-5 16th to begin his late-round skid. He did notch his second eagle of the tournament, his latest coming at the par-5 sixth.

Defending PGA Tour Rookie of the Year John Huh is in third place at 8 under. Vijay Singh, Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia and Hunter Mahan are all near the top of the leaderboard, as well, heading into the weekend at Bay Hill.

See how it all unfolded Friday:

• • •

Hole No. 18: Par 4, 458 yards

Tiger has bogeyed his last two holes – his only two bogeys of the round. He'll try to finish strong heading into the weekend here at No. 18. It's started to pour at Bay Hill, too, as a storm front is rolling in.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger drives into the right rough and decides to just lay it up in the fairway, well short of the green, to avoid finding the water for a third time today. Tiger's third ends up a good 20 feet from the hole and he leaves the par save just short. Good line, but it's a third straight bogey to close out a 2-under 70.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under (5 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 17: Par 3, 221 yards

First bogey of the day for Tiger, who has now found the water twice today. He's also now three shots back of leader Justin Rose.

Hole wrap-up: It's 6-iron for Woods, who sends it long and left into the back rough. Tiger flops onto the green, but it runs way past the hole and onto the fringe. Tiger nearly makes par from about 15 feet, but just misses left. That's a second straight bogey for Tiger.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Rickie Fowler is 5 under through 14 holes today and has moved to 4 under for the tournament.

• • •

Hole No. 16: Par 5, 511 yards

Tiger eagled this hole on Thursday. He'd like to replicate that right now.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger finds a right fairway bunker off the tee, but he'll still go for this green in two. He hits it fat, though, and he hates it immediately, slamming the club back down on the sand. The ball hits short of the water guarding the front of the green and then bounces into the hazard. Tiger opts to move the ball back into the fairway, but still can't stick his fourth shot very close. He'll have a 25-footer to save par. It's a right-to-left putt downhill a bit, and Tiger leaves it a little high. That's the first bogey of the day for Woods.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under (7 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Justin Rose just misses a chance at eagle from the fringe at No. 16, but he taps in for birdie to move back to 10 under.

• • •

Hole No. 15: Par 4, 429 yards

Four holes left for Woods, who is trying to reel in leader and playing competitor Justin Rose, who fell back to 9 under with bogey on No. 14.

Hole wrap-up: After a solid tee shot, Tiger sends his approach into the back greenside bunker. He makes a great sand save, though, blasting out of the bunker to about a foot and then making the short putt for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under (8 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 14: Par 3, 215 yards

It didn't take long for Tiger to make up for that three-putt for par at No. 12. Still no bogeys for Woods today, which is also a good sign.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger discusses this tee shot at length with caddie Joe LaCava. He then finds the green with his tee shot, but he's well short of the hole. He lags to within a couple feet and settles for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under (8 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Matt Jones making a nice run today. He's 4 under through 14 holes to climb to 5 under for the tournament.

• • •

Hole No. 13: Par 4, 370 yards

Tiger was vocally frustrated after that birdie miss. He'll try to make up for it at this short par-4.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger goes with iron and finds the fairway off the tee. He hits wedge onto the green and he'll have a 15-footer for birdie, which he makes. That one broke a little left-to-right. A little tricky, but Tiger reads it perfectly.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under (8 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 12: Par 5, 574 yards

Tiger is now just two back as he heads into another par-5. He's been pretty good on those so far this week.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger pounds his driver up the left side of the fairway, but it rolls just into the first cut of rough. He goes for the green in two with 3-iron and hits it pin-high. He has a long eagle putt, though. He runs it about 4 feet by and then can't make the birdie, as it lips out. He settles for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under (7 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Justin Rose lags a long eagle putt from the fringe to about 3 feet and he makes birdie to move to 10 under. He's the solo leader now. Also, Kevin Chappell made ace with 5-iron at the par-3 14th. He moves to 4 over for the tournament.

• • •

Hole No. 11: Par 4, 438 yards

Tiger is continuing to save himself from getting into trouble, and he still hasn't made a bogey yet this round.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger hits 5-wood down the middle of the fairway and then sticks his approach to about 15 feet. Tiger follows by draining the birdie. He's locked in now.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under (7 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: The projected cut is still 2 over. Players still on the course and outside the projected cut line include Matt Every (3 over), Scott Langley (3 over) and Brian Gay (4 over).

• • •

Hole No. 10: Par 4, 400 yards

No bogeys through nine holes for Woods, which is always a good sign.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger goes with 5-wood, but pulls it just a tad and into a fairway bunker. He's on the up-slope and with wedge hits it just short of the green. His ball lands in the rough just beyond a front-left greenside bunker. Not a great chip from Tiger, who leaves it a good 5 feet or so short. He completes the up-and-down for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 9: Par 4, 474 yards

Last hole for Tiger on the front nine. He's 3 under through eight holes after playing those holes in 2 under on Thursday.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger hits driver up the right side of the fairway, but it rolls just into the rough. He finds the very front of the green and from 50-plus feet he lags his birdie try to about 3 feet. Another par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Rickie Fowler is 1 under through six holes to get back to even for the tournament.

• • •

Hole No. 8: Par 4, 460 yards

Tiger bogeyed No. 7 on Thursday, so he has to feel good that he got out of there with par today.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger finds fairway and then lands his approach on the green. He just misses a long birdie putt from 30 feet away and makes another par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 7: Par 3, 199 yards

Well, that's what Tiger needed to get going. He's got two eagles on par-5s through 24 holes this tournament.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger finds the green, but has a long birdie attempt. He rolls it 4 feet by, but makes the comeback putt to save par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 6: Par 5, 555 yards

Much like Thursday, Tiger is making some big saves, but can't really get much going early.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger carries the water with driver and finds the middle of the fairway. He'll have a go at the green in two, and he puts his second shot to about 10 feet from the cup. He then buries the eagle.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under (6 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Justin Rose is now 2 under through six holes to join Bill Haas in the lead at 9 under.

• • •

Hole No. 5: Par 4, 390 yards

Another missed opportunity for Tiger, and that one especially hurts considering the success Tiger had on the par-5s on Thursday. Tiger birdied Nos. 4-6 in the first round.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger goes with iron off the tee at the short par-4, and then finds the back fringe with his approach. He has about 20 feet for birdie, but he doesn't make it. Another par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under (4 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: It's not been a good week for the amateurs. Peter Williamson shot 11-over 83 on Thursday and Steven Fox, who carded a 78 in Round 1, is 9 over through 17 holes today, and is in last place at 15 over.

• • •

Hole No. 4: Par 5, 561 yards

While the birdie at No. 1 was nice, that last par save at No. 3 was even nicer. Tiger was 5 under on the par-5s on Thursday.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger goes with driver for the first time today and pulls another tee shot. it finds a fairway bunker. Tiger hits 5-wood out of the sand and finds more sand. He hits out of the greenside bunker to about 8 feet. He misses the birdie putt right, though, and taps in for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under (4 under for the tournament)

• • •

Hole No. 3: Par 4, 434 yards

That was a missed opportunity for Tiger, who will try to shake that off at No. 3.

Hole wrap-up: That missed birdie putt doesn't look like a big deal compared to Tiger's tee shot at No. 3, a 5-wood that is pulled into the water. His third shot after the penalty finds the green and he has a chance to save par. And from about 20 feet, Tiger gets it to drop. That one produced a fist pump from Tiger.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under (4 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: John Huh just wrapped up a 3-under 69 and will enter Saturday at 8 under.

• • •

Hole No. 2: Par 3, 231 yards

We'll say it again: Great start. Tiger was 2 over on par-3s on Thursday. He'll try to change his fortunes today, starting with this hole.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger's tee shot hits the front part of the green and rolls just past the hole. He has another good look at birdie, but misses the putt inside of 5 feet. Disappointing par for Woods.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under (4 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Justin Rose birdies from the fringe to move to 8 under.

• • •

Hole No. 1: Par 4, 461 yards

Tiger going off from No. 1 today. He's still grouped with Ernie Els and first-round leader Justin Rose. It's a nice day in Orlando: clear skies, temperatures in the 70s and a light breeze. Tiger going with an orange shirt, grey slacks and white hat. Woods was 2 under on the front nine on Thursday, so he'll look to start off strong today.

Hole wrap-up: Tiger opts for 5-wood off the tee and finds the fairway. His approach ends up pin-high, about 15 feet from the hole. Tiger drains the birdie putt. Great start.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under (4 under for the tournament)

Elsewhere on the course: Justin Rose makes par at No. 1, and he's in a four-way tie for second at 7 under right now with J.J. Henry, Jimmy Walker and John Huh. That group trails leader Bill Haas by two shots. Haas is 9 under after carding a 6-under 66 today.

• • •
