After two close calls to start the season, Oklahoma State claimed the elusive team victory Monday at the Schooner Fall Classic.
Oklahoma State posted a final-round 1-under 279 at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., to overtake LSU and Arizona State. The Cowgirls won the inaugural event, hosted by the Toby Keith Foundation, with a 54-hole total of 28-over 868. They were six shots ahead of Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma State effort was led by senior Jayde Panos, who had the individual lead after Round 1 and at 4-over 214 (67-73-74), finished the event in solo seventh. Teammates Casie Cathrea and Isabella Dellert tied for 12th with 7-over 217 totals. The Cowgirls played without sophomore Julie Yang, who stepped away from the lineup for the second stage of LPGA Q-School, to be played 8-10 in Venice, Fla.
So far this season, Oklahoma State had finished third at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview and runner-up at the Windy City Invitational.
Oklahoma completed the biggest comeback of the tournament after climbing from 12th at the end of Round 1 to second at the end of Round 3. Second-round leader LSU tied for third with Arizona State at 36-over 876.
LSU junior Madelene Sagstrom won the individual medal at 4-over 206 (70-70-66) and Kentucky’s Liz Breed was runner-up, two shots back.
