Having played in Wyndham and Palmer Cups, Matt Kuchar always had his sights on the Walker Cup.

For an amateur golfer, the history of the Walker Cup and the pride for playing for your country is unsurpassed in amateur golf.

“It's one of those things where you feel like you're best of the best of that category, of amateur golf, “ Kuchar said. “Getting to be named to a team is best of the best in amateur golf; to represent the United States, it's an awesome feeling and a cool bond.”

Charlie Yates, a Georgia Tech alumni, was part of the team and made the experience even more special since Yates’s trip was one of his last to Scotland.

Kuchar also was paired with Bryce Molder, another Georgia Tech alumni, making the experience a little more special.

“I remember it really being a special trip and getting to play several extra courses in Scotland that I've never done before, doing the . . . kind of practice team that you get,” Kuchar said. “We met at Cypress Point. I want to say the Amateur was at Pebble that year, so they had a practice team meet at Cypress Point. All that stuff, all that buildup was really cool to be a part of, and then to actually be on the team, to get your proper uniforms, yeah, it was as cool as I wanted it to be.”
