Greg Owen's quest to keep his PGA Tour card received a boost Friday.

Owen, who earned just $442,198 this season in 24 Tour events, shot 6-under 66 to take the lead after two rounds of the Chiquita Classic at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C. At 8 under, Owen leads by a shot over Andrew Svoboda, Kris Blanks, Will MacKenzie and Camilo Benedetti.

Owen, 41, has lost his card twice since his inaugural season on the PGA Tour in 2005, but has played the last two season – including this year – on the PGA Tour. He missed the cut at last week's Web.com Tour Finals opener, the Hotel Fitness Championship.

The top 25 in the regular-season money list already have earned their PGA Tour cards for the 2013-14 season, but there are 25 more available for the top earners in the four playoff events.

Among the notables missing the cut:

  • Trevor Immelman, who won last week
  • Shawn Stefani
  • Seung-Yul Noh
  • Henrik Norlander
  • Chris DiMarco
  • Spencer Levin
