Watson switches irons for first time since ’04
At the BMW Championship, Bubba Watson switched irons for the first time since 2004, embracing Ping’s newest model – the S55. Watson had been using the S59 since 2004, when the S series was introduced. He won the 2012 Masters with the S59. He received an S55 set (3-9) at The Barclays in August and began practicing with them. He used them in a corporate outing at The Greenbrier, but was drawing them a bit more than he wanted, according to Ping tour rep Matt Rollins. More adjustments were made, including a lie angle that was 1 degree flatter. The irons hit retail Nov. 1.

Tools of the trade for shooting a 59 on Tour
En route to his 59 during the second round of the BMW Championship, Jim Furyk navigated his way around Conway Farms Golf Club nearly flawlessly, missing not a single fairway and hitting 17 greens in regulation.
For his precision off the tee, he used Callaway’s new FT Optiforce driver, which Furyk switched to at the Canadian Open in July and has used since. The loft is 9.5 degrees, the driver setting is Square/Neutral and it’s equipped with a Fujikura Speeder VC 6.2 X shaft, tipped 1 inch for a finished length of 44.5 inches.
The rest of Furyk’s bag: Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme 3-wood (13 degree, bent to 13.3, with a Fujikura Speeder VC 8.0 X shaft); Ping Anser hybrid (20 degree, bent to 19, with a UST Mamiya VTS Black 100X shaft); Callaway Razr X Forged irons (4-PW, with KBS Tour shafts); Callaway X Forged (50 degree), Titleist Vokey Design SM4 (56 degree) and Titleist Vokey Design K Grind (60 degree) wedges with True Temper Dynamic Gold S-400 shafts; and an Odyssey Versa No. 1 Wide putter. He used a Callaway Hex Black Tour golf ball.
