Off Super Bowl, Manning heads to Pebble Beach
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
Scott Langley didn’t believe it at first when he was informed that he was going to play the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am with future Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.
The second-year PGA Tour pro found out not from tournament officials, but via a Twitter post that Manning would be his partner.
“Somebody tweeted at me and said, 'Hey, sweet pairing, I'm really jealous, have fun with Peyton,' ” Langley said just after teeing off in a practice round. “I had no idea. I didn't know he was playing in the tournament. I don't think he knew he was playing in the tournament until yesterday.”
Eventually a tournament official confirmed that Langley will play with Manning. So Langley, a Green Bay Packers fan, will be paired with a presumptive first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback.
Of course, Manning didn’t look like the regular-season MVP in last week's Super Bowl – with two interceptions during a 43-8 drubbing by the Seattle Seahawks. But Langley hopes he can help ease some of the pain of those memories.
“For the game I was actually pulling for the Broncos because I'd like to see Peyton win,” Langley said. “Now to be partners with him, maybe we can make something happen on the golf course.”
Manning played with Webb Simpson at the AT&T in 2009.
