Defending champ Luiten leads Lyoness Open
Saturday, June 7, 2014
Defending champion Joost Luiten stormed to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday behind a 6-under 66 at the Lyoness Open at Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria.
Luiten had played bogey-free golf for 33 holes until he three-putted the par-3 14th in Saturday’s third round.
The Dutchman leads by two over 2012 champion Bernd Wiesberger of Austria (9-under 207). Wiesberger also shot 66 in the third round. The 28-year-old needs a victory to get into next week’s U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst No. 2.
England’s David Horsey made the biggest move of the day. He started the day in 47th, but a 7-under 65 jumped him into a tie for fifth.
"It's been coming for a while to be honest,” Horsey said. “I've been hitting it nicely on the range and just not quite been able to take it out on the golf course.”
Luiten, No. 45 in the Official World Golf Rankings, is looking for his fourth European Tour victory in the last four years.
