Assistant Managing Editor Bill Zimmerman brings 20 years of journalism experience to the Golfweek.com staff.
Before joining Golfweek, Bill helped launch the Florida State team website under ESPN.com's College Football Nation flag, then coordinated recruiting and team coverage for its Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU sites.
His background is mainly in newspapers, including three of the nation's top 100, most recently the Orlando Sentinel – where he began as a copy editor and progressed to leading sports and/or news editing efforts for print and digital on any given night. Before joining the Sentinel, Bill worked at the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post and the (Daytona Beach, Fla.) News-Journal in news-design and management roles. He also spent time writing and editing sports coverage at several smaller papers in Florida and North Carolina, and edited for TurfNet Magazine.
Bill grew up in Ocala, Fla., graduated from Clemson University and met his wife working at a newspaper. At the first PGA Tour event he attended (as a teenage fan), he managed to talk to Payne Stewart and Fred Couples outside the scoring tent at the 1988 Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic. He then ran alongside the gallery at sunset to track a five-hole playoff in which Bob Lohr defeated Chip Beck.
