Bandon Trails has four holes overhauled
BANDON, Ore. – Bandon Trails will greet golfers with a different look this spring after designers Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore returned to Bandon Dunes Golf Resort to renovate four holes.
Bandon Trails, which opened in 2005 as the third course in what now is a five-course resort, ranks No. 25 on the Golfweek’s Best Modern Courses list. Owner Mike Keiser brought the original design team back to make changes to four par-4 holes on the 6,765-yard, par-71 course.
The major renovation came on the 399-yard 18th hole, where humps in the landing area were softened, the false front of the green eliminated and the entire green flattened. A bunker also was added to the rear of the green.
Other changes included eliminating the expansive sand dune left of the second green and grassing some of the dune and creating a bunker in its place.
The controversial 14th green, the smallest on the course, was tweaked to remove a hump in the front, and the 15th green was completely rebuilt and flattened to allow for more hole locations.
