Men's countdown: No. 9 LSU
We are counting down the top 30 men's teams heading into the fall college season.

2012-13 Golfweek ranking: 18
Go-to guy: Junior Curtis Thompson
Season outlook: Head coach Chuck Winstead returns his top six players from last season's squad that earned a pair of victories and advanced to the NCAA Championship. The Tigers were led last year by junior Curtis Thompson, who finished the season at No. 49 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. He has a lot of help, however. Senior Andrew Presley (78th) and junior Stewart Jolly (97th) also finished the season in the top 100, and behind them sophomore Zach Wright, junior Myles Lewis and senior Smylie Kaufman will compete for the final two lineup positions.
With that such depth and experience, Winstead will be seeking more consistency from the Tigers, who had disappointing late finishes at the SEC Championship (11th) and NCAA Championship (T-23). The Tigers' top five combined for 62 starts last year. If LSU can get improved play from the Nos. 4 and 5 slots, this team should avoid such poor finishes and contend for titles almost every time out.
