NBC Sports Group ensured that the most important golf tournament remaining on its schedule isn’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

The PGA of America and NBC announced Oct. 10 that the Ryder Cup will remain on NBC through 2030 as part of a 15-year contract extension. The network has aired the biennial competition since 1991. The PGA-NBC agreement, which takes effect in 2015, also includes the Senior PGA Championship.

As part of the agreement, NBC Sports Group also will broadcast Ryder Cup preview shows, produce Ryder Cup documentaries that will air on NBC and Golf Channel, air first-ever live coverage of practice rounds on Golf Channel, and run Ryder Cup highlights on Spanish-language Telemundo and Mun2.

“We’re excited to continue our longstanding relationship with The PGA of America and renew the Ryder Cup, one of the most prestigious properties in sports, through 2030,” Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group, said in a statement. “This multi-platform agreement allows our broadcast, cable, digital and regional platforms to work with The PGA on their prestigious events and important initiatives.”

It’s not yet clear whether the first-round matches, played on a Friday, will remain on ESPN, which has sub-licensed those rights from NBC.

“We have some contractual obligations for discussion with them, and we will honor those commitments, and that’s a story still to be told,” Jon Miller, programming president of NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network, said during a conference call announcing the agreement.

The long-term deal restores some certainty to NBC’s golf lineup. NBC was stung in August when Fox Sports snatched away the rights to the U.S. Open and other U.S. Golf Association events.
