Tiger Woods, although he hit his driver only twice, carried a new Nike VR_S Covert Tour driver at the Open Championship.

The driver was a customized club: The 430cc head is more pear-shaped than the standard Covert Tour. Its Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana White Board 73X shaft was glued into the clubhead rather than using an adjustable hosel. Its loft is 9.5 degree.

Woods wasn’t the only player with this driver head.

Rory McIlroy, stating his preference for a traditional pear shape, switched to a 9.5-degree version of the Covert Tour. His Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage TS 70X shaft also was glued into the clubhead.
