Final matches set for Polo Golf Junior Classic
The finals are set at the Polo Golf Junior Classic. The field was narrowed from eight boys and eight girls on Thursday to the final four players.
Stroke-play medalist Scott Scheffler handily won two matches Thursday at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Scheffler, No. 7 in Golfweek’s Junior Rankings, defeated Rigel Fernandes, 4 and 3, in the quarterfinals before knocking off Brad Dalke, ranked No. 10, in the semifinals, 3 and 1.
Scheffler will meet Adam Wood, a Duke commit, on Friday morning. Wood advanced to the final after defeating Scott Jaster, who earlier this week had defeated No. 3-ranked Robby Shelton. Wood claimed the biggest margin of victory of the day with his 6-and-5 semifinal win over Ben Dietrich.
In the girls division, Angel Yin, who played in this summer’s U.S. Women’s Open, will face off against Player of the Year Ariya Jutanugarn. Yin defeated Casey Danielson, 3 and 1, and Bethany Wu, 1 up.
Jutanugarn, ranked No. 1 by Golfweek, had to get past Simin Feng and defending champion Nicole Morales. Jutanugarn logged a major comeback in the latter match, winning 4 and 3 after being 2 down through five holes.
