Austin wins PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms in playoff
Sunday, July 21, 2013
With a birdie on the first playoff hole, Woody Austin earned his first PGA Tour victory since 2007 at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Madison, Miss.
Austin got to 20 under on the strength of birdies at Nos. 13 and 15 at Annandale, then parred in. He was caught by Daniel Summerhays' back-to-back birdies to finish his round of 69, and by Cameron Beckman's birdie at the last for 67.
Austin had missed the cut in his other three starts on Tour this season, while his best finish on the Web.com Tour is a T-5 at the Stadion Classic at UGA in May.
Nicholas Thompson finished fourth, two shots back, on the same day that his sister, Lexi, finished T-3 and won a car with a hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour. Thompson closed with birdies on four of his last six holes for a 71 that included a 3-over front nine.
Billy Andrade and Kyle Reifers finished T-5 another shot back.
The Tour heads next week to the RBC Canadian Open.
