FootJoy Invitational loses PGA Tour exemption
Tuesday, June 11, 2013
Matthew NeSmith, who recently completed his freshman year at South Carolina, won last year's FootJoy Invitational, becoming the fifth junior player to receive an invitation to play in the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship last fall.
But starting this year, other junior golfers won't get the same chance. The Wyndham Championship no longer will hand out a sponsor exemption to the winner of the AJGA event, which began Tuesday at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., site of the upcoming Tour event.
The Wyndham Championship will mark the conclusion of the 2013 PGA Tour regular season. And with the fall season now marking the beginning of the 2013-14 season, the Wyndham offers the final chance for players to earn official money.
