Dalke, others set to compete at Junior Players
The Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is a tournament that has been circled on Brad Dalke's calendar for a year now.
Not only is Dalke excited about getting to play the same setup as the pros – the final round on the Players Stadium course will feature the same tees, yardages and hole locations as the Players Championship, the PGA Tour's premier event held in May – but he's also looking forward to building off last year's runner-up finish in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Dalke, who just recently moved to Hobart, Okla., and at 15 years old is already committed to play college golf at Oklahoma, finished a shot behind winner Robby Shelton in 2012. The two were tied entering the final hole, but Dalke lipped out a par putt at the par-4 18th and Shelton sank his 10-footer for par to seal the victory.
Shelton, who is about to begin his freshman year at Alabama, is not in the field this year to defend his title. Neither is Jim Liu, who finished third last year and is getting ready for his fall semester at Stanford.
That leaves Dalke as one of the heavy favorites for this year's tournament, which begins Friday. The first and third rounds will be played on the Players Stadium course while Saturday's second round will be held on the Dye's Valley course at TPC Sawgrass.
Dalke will be a part of a strong first-round pairing that also includes Scottie Scheffler and Jorge Garcia. Scheffler, a Texas commit, won the U.S. Junior Amateur in July before making it to the quarterfinals earlier this month at the U.S. Amateur. Garcia, a Florida commit, has two big AJGA victories already this year, at the Puerto Rico Junior and Thunderbird International Junior.
Other notables in the field include Doug Ghim, a Texas commit who advanced to the semifinals at the U.S. Junior, and Tyler McDaniel, a Kentucky commit who won the Junior PGA in July. Andy Zhang, Austin Connelly and Adam Wood are also in the field.
