Alison Lee cruised to her fourth AJGA invitational victory Friday, winning the Rolex Tournament of Champions by six shots at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club.
Lee, a UCLA signee who was playing in her final junior tournament, shot a final-round 70 and was the only player under par for the tournament. Andrea Lee was solo second at 2 over while Casey Danielson was third at 3 over.
“There’s not a word to describe this, it is a feeling you just don’t experience,” Lee said.
Lee also won the 2012 ANNIKA Invitational, the 2012 PING Invitational and the 2013 Rolex Girls Junior Championship. She's won all three of her 2013 AJGA events.
“ has been crazy,” Lee said. “My first AJGA tournament was supposed to be Heather Farr, but I withdrew because my game was just a mess. My confidence was nowhere to be found, so I took a couple weeks off. But after winning Rolex Girls, it put me back to where I was, with my game doing really well, it’s been a really great year for me.”
Benjamin Griffin took the boys-division crown, coming from behind to shoot 5-under 65 and notch a one-shot victory over Adam Wood, who also shot a final-round 65. Unlike Lee, it was Griffin's first invitational victory.
Griffin entered the final round three shots back of third-round leaders Theo Humphrey and Matt Gilchrest, who was fresh off his first invitational victory at the FootJoy Invitational. But Gilchrest capped his tournament with a 1-over 71 and Humphrey shot 72 to pave the way for Griffin, who made six birdies after bogeying the second hole of the day.
One of Griffin's birdies came at No. 15, where he made a 81-foot putt.
“I knew it was my day after that fell," he said.
“It’s incredible looking at past names. It just doesn’t get much better than this, seeing guys like Phil Mickelson; it’s just an awesome feeling to be able to put my name on the list.”
