I wasn’t sure what was better last week – Hee Kyung Seo blowing away the field by six shots at the Kia Classic at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., or the fact that she is called the “Supermodel of the Fairways” in Korea. Both are equally cool.
Seo, who was in the field as a sponsor exemption and was making her first LPGA appearance in the United States, has already made her mark on the Korean LPGA over the last couple of years, winning 11 titles. Eight of those victories were the come-from-behind variety. That leads us to her second nickname – the “Final Round Queen”. Not bad nicknames at all.
To top it off, Seo is a fashion designer, too. Is there anything this girl can’t do? It is no wonder she is anointed the “Supermodel of the Fairways.” Her beauty and style is a huge hit overseas. Lucky for us, she has decided to tee it up at this week’s Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. So while gracing us with her impeccable golf game, we get a chance to watch another week’s worth of her own bright and cheerful South Korean style.
It is interesting to see the Korean style here in the United States. It’s a breath of fresh air. Rarely do players in Korean fashions go unnoticed, what with their bright, yet conservative attire. It is almost something out of a “Hello Kitty” store. I would exemplify their style as futuristic, with high-performance fabric qualities.
We’re hoping that Seo decides to make the U.S. circuit her permanent tour because we could use a few more supermodels strutting down our fairways. And, perhaps, she could bring her clothing along with her!
