Amy Alston, of Mission Viejo, Calif., has given a verbal commitment to play golf for San Diego State in the fall of 2011. Alston is No. 83 in Golfweek’s rankings for the class of 2011.

Alston also made unofficial visits to Colorado, Oklahoma State, Washington, Oregon State, Oregon, UC Davis and Oklahoma before deciding on San Diego State. Her strategy was to expose herself to every kind of campus before making a decision.

“We wanted to make sure San Diego State was the right school,” Alston said.

In the end, Alston was lured to the Aztecs roster by the opportunity to play for head coach Emilee Klein. Alston said she was looking for a coach who would push her and help her take her game to the next level.

“I’m hopefully going to play golf for a long time,” Alston said.

Alston also is looking forward to spending time with her future teammates, many of whom she already has met.

Alston represented Southern California in the Junior Americas Cup, and finished 12th at the AJGA’s Emerson Junior Golf Classic. She has had four top-5 finishes in Toyota Tour Cup Series events this year.
