The names Zach Johnson and John Deere go together because of Johnson’s success at the John Deere Classic – he has three top-five finishes in as many years, including a win in 2012.
But John Deere decided to make things more official, becoming a corporate sponsor for Johnson, the No. 9 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Starting this week, where Johnson will compete in the WGC-Accenture Match Play event, the golfer will display the John Deere logo on his bag for the length of the three-year deal.
“It is a significant responsibility to be entrusted with representing a company known around the world for its strong values,” Johnson said of John Deere in a release. “I am sincerely looking forward to it.”
Johnson has played in the John Deere Classic for 12 straight years and sits on its executive committee. He’ll have the chance to make it a baker’s dozen when the event takes place July 10-13 in Silvis, Ill. – just across the Mississippi River from Johnson’s home state of Iowa.
