What do you do if you’re glued to last place in a no-cut field?

Try a Happy Gilmore swing during competition, of course.

That’s exactly what John Peterson committed to in the final round of the CIMB Classic on Sunday. The 26-year-old began the day in last place by 11 shots, and figured he would add some flair to an otherwise meaningless round.

Cue Peterson’s Adam Sandler-inspired opening tee shot:

If we’re going to judge, Peterson didn’t really complete a full Gilmore here. The motion lacked the true running start of a Gilmore swing. Then again, Peterson’s seamless move toward the ball the instant after his second hand touched the club was pretty impressive. His overall nonchalance is remarkable, considering this is still tournament golf in front of a crowd.

However one slices it, this was a brazen move – notwithstanding Peterson’s hold on last place. Oh, and the opening-tee theatrics worked, too: Peterson ended the CIMB Classic with a sizzling 66.

Peterson’s chase for the gold jacket is on!
