Jake Grula (2017) commits to Central Florida

Jake Grula, a 17-year-old from Winter Park, Fla., made several unofficial visits during his recruiting process – Wake Forest, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Augusta, South Florida, North Florida, South Alabama and Central Florida.

He decided on the school located about 11 miles from his home, verbally committing to the UCF Knights.

“Coach (Bryce) Wallor was a big influence,” said Grula, who was featured in a 2015 Golfweek article titled “The Recruiting Puzzle: Junior golfers face an increasingly intense college recruiting process.”

“His program has a lot of structure, and he knows what it takes to make players improve. I feel like I’ll get better every year playing for him and become a better person as well. The atmosphere at UCF is great, and I’ll have friends from junior golf on the team. My parents and I thought about all the options and finally agreed that UCF was the best fit to further my golf game and my education.”

Grula, a rising senior at Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, Fla., is ranked No. 367 by Golfweek and No. 10 among 2017 recruits from Florida. He has 12 career top-10 finishes on the Florida Junior Tour, including four top 10s in his last six starts.

He recently was fifth at the AJGA Jim Bell Memorial Open, and also has a runner-up finish at the 2014 AJGA Junior All-Star at Tanglewood. Grula has competed for the Highlanders’ varsity team since seventh grade.
