President George H.W. Bush golf items sell for over $30,000 at auction

Nobody expected golf equipment belonging to a former president to be cheap, but wow somebody paid through the roof to get in on some Bush golfing possessions.

An auction for a set of golf items once owned by George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the U.S., ended Thursday, and the winning bid was … $30,000? Yes, somebody out there paid $30,000 for golf equipment formerly owned by a president. In fact, the final price was $30,014.95.

For the auction, run by Boston-based RR Auction, Bush’s Titleist Scotty Cameron ‘Big Sur’ putter, Callaway golf bag and a pair of size 11 Nike Air golf shoes were up grabs. The Bush golf collection sold also included close to a dozen golf balls (with four being Bush’s personalized golf balls) and a scorecard dated July 16, 2003.

Bush had originally given these items to a worker who frequently assisted the Bush family with their golf equipment at the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The former president was known as a fast golfer, once playing 18 in less than two hours. Apparently, though, bidders moved even quicker when given the chance to try to buy his equipment. Again, $30,014.95.

If President-elect Donald Trump ever gets any of his golf equipment sold, we can’t imagine how much that will go for.
