Masters favorite Dustin Johnson withdraws from Shell Houston Open field

The next time we see Dustin Johnson on the golf course, he will be at Augusta National.

Johnson, who won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Sunday (his third straight PGA Tour victory, opted Monday to withdraw from this week’s Shell Houston Open, citing fatigue. He was replaced in the field by Scott Stallings.

The withdrawal is not all that surprising, especially considering what Johnson said Sunday evening in Austin: “I don’t know. Ask me that in the morning when I wake up. But as of right now I’m playing and I’m planning on going there. But I’ll probably – I’ll get there Tuesday night, I would imagine, if I’m going to go. But, yeah, as of right now I’m planning on being there.”

Last year, Johnson finished third at the Golf Club of Houston. He is currently a 5-to-1 favorite to win the Masters next week, followed by Jordan Spieth (7-1), Rory McIlroy (15-2) and Jason Day (15-1).
