PXG 0317X hybrids

The new PXG 0317X is among the most technologically advanced hybrids, but when you look down at one in the address position, you would never know it.

Instead of using stainless steel, the material commonly used in fairway wood and hybrid construction, PXG designers hid a carbon-fiber crown under the matte black finish. It weighs just 2.8 grams, which is nearly 10 grams less than a stainless steel crown. That weight savings helps to drive down the center of gravity.

The PXG 0317X hybrids have a carbon-fiber crown under the matte black paint.

Seven adjustable weights made of tungsten and titanium also drive the CG down and allow golfers and custom-fitters to create either a draw or fade bias or establish the 0317X in a neutral setting that allows better players to shape shots more easily.

Another unique feature cannot be seen. Inside the head, engineers positioned a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) insert. The honeycomb-shaped insert is made from the same material injected into the 0311 irons. The high-performance, anti-concussion polymer dampens vibrations created at impact to enhance sound and feel.

Compared to the original 0317 hybrids, which will remain available, PXG said the new 0317X hybrids produce .5 mph more ball speed and should launch .5 degrees higher with 200-300 rpm less spin. As a result, they create about 3-5 yards more carry distance and should produce 5-7 yards more total distance.

The 0317X hybrids are available in 17-, 19-, 22-, 25- and 28-degree options for $550 each.
