Several of the features PXG designed into the 0811X driver are also found in the company’s newest fairway woods, the 0341X.

Under the matte-black paint, the crown has been made using carbon fiber, which helps push the center of gravity down. In fact, the carbon fiber lowers the CG more in the fairway woods than in the driver, because stainless steel in ordinary fairway wood crowns weighs more than the titanium used to make driver crowns. The 0341X’s crown weighs just 3.8 ounces, which is 13.7 ounces less than an equivalent stainless steel crown.

The carbon fiber crown designed into the PXG 0341X fairway woods is hidden under a matte black finish.

Inside the head of each 0341X is a honeycombed layer of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). It’s the same material injected into the heads of the 0311 irons, and it was added to the fairway woods to absorb vibrations at impact, soften feel and enhance sound.

To maximize distance, both from the tee and off the turf, the 0341X woods have a high-strenth HT1770M steel face that is just .075″ thick. It is strong enough to be durable yet thin enough to flex at impact to deliver more ball speed.

To help golfers shape shots more easily, and to help custom-fitters match the 0341X with each player’s swing, nine interchangeable weight screws were designed into the sole, with the silver-toned screws made from tungsten and the darker-finished screws made from titanium. Putting the heavy tungsten screws in the heel promotes a draw; positioning the tungsten weights in the toe creates a fade bias. There is also an adjustable hosel mechanism that allows golfers to increase or decrease the stated loft by as many as 1.5 degrees.

Compared to the original 0341 fairway woods, which will remain available, the 0311X woods create a launch angle that is 1 degree higher and should produce about 300-400 rpm less spin. PXG said that combination should produce shots that have 7-10 yards more carry distance and 8-11 more total yards.

The 0341X woods will be available in 13-, 15-, 18- and 21-degree models for $650 each.
