Keswick Hall & Golf Club

Keswick Hall’s Full Cry is Virginia golf at its best.

When Thomas Jefferson sought the perfect locale to build his beloved Monticello, he chose the bucolic countryside at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia’s “Hunt Country.” Situated on 600 rolling acres just down the road from Jefferson’s estate is the world-class resort, Keswick Hall & Golf Club.

While the centerpiece of the estate property just outside Charlottesville is the elegant Forbes Five-Star inn-style hotel, its Pete Dye-designed golf course – Full Cry at Keswick Golf Club – has become an absolute “must play” since opening in 2014 to rave reviews.

“There is no question the Hunt Country of Virginia is the perfect terrain for an exceptional golf course and that’s exactly what we have with Full Cry,” says Dye. “The layout is as good as any I’ve ever done.”

The last three holes on the back nine are as fine a finish as you’ll find. The par-3 16th is modeled after the famous 15th “Redan” hole at Scotland’s North Berwick. With train tracks running down the entire length of
the right side, the superlative par-5 17th is called the “Railroad Hole” and plays much longer than the yardage due to the prevailing headwind.

The tee box of the demanding par-4 No. 18 provides an ideal crescendo to the round with a panoramic view of the sprawling Hunt Country, serene mountains off on the horizon and inn above. It’s as stunning a setting for parkland golf as there is in the U.S.
