Tiger Tracker: Shot-by-shot recap of Tiger Woods' third-round 65 at the Players

Tiger Woods made his mark on Moving Day.

After going out in 6-under 30, he managed to post a third-round 65 and rocket from T-68 to T-8. What a round it was!

We followed his third-round progress shot-by-shot. Catch up with what you may’ve missed below…

Hole No. 18: Par 4, 470 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:54 p.m. ET): Tiger goes with iron off the tee and he flights a low draw beautifully. That is down the left-center of the fairway and perfect. A closing birdie is within site after that drive.

APPROACH SHOT (12:59 p.m. ET): That’s good stuff. Tiger goes right at this back-right pin from 193 yards and the ball lands about 10 feet short of the cup. It races on by and goes over the green. But he’s barely on the back fringe and will have maybe 15 feet for a closing birdie.

ON THE GREEN (1:05 p.m. ET): That putt was always a little right. But it trickles just a foot by and Tiger taps in for par. TW did not play very well over the final five holes, but what a round this was despite that tough final stretch.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7-under 65 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 17: Par 3, 126 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:44 p.m. ET): A sand wedge for TW and that’s too much club. The ball lands about 25 feet beyond the pin and checks quickly. But he needed to land that a yard or two shorter and it would’ve caught a slope and gone down toward the pin. Instead, he’s got a slippery 30-footer down that huge slope.

ON THE GREEN (12:49 p.m. ET): Tiger didn’t quite get the break read well, as the ball trickled off to the right, but that’s excellent speed down that slope. He leaves himself 2 feet, and he taps in for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7 under thru 17 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 16: Par 5, 506 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:27 p.m. ET): A 3-wood here, and the ball was going a little right but that’s great. The ball ends up in the right side of the fairway. He’ll have a great look in from there.

APPROACH SHOT (12:31 p.m. ET): This was from 226 yards, and that was not good. That ball was well left. It actually does well to creep into the greenside bunker there. Just not a good shot. But it’s not a bad leave, although he won’t have a ton of green to work with from over there.

AROUND THE GREEN (12:35 p.m. ET): That was not a great lie, but Tiger lands this just short of the green and it rolls out about 7 feet past the cup. Not what he wanted after his drive, but that great shot could still lead him to birdie.

ON THE GREEN (12:40 p.m. ET): Oof. Tiger hits the right lip hard on that one and the balls lips out. That was a disappointing par. Now onto the island green. He has to be careful to not really squander a great round here.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7 under thru 16 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 15: Par 4, 452 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:13 p.m. ET): Tiger lets go of the driver immediately as he hates this one. And yeah, this one is significantly right. But it may turn out OK over there, it’ll depend on the window he has.

APPROACH SHOT (12:17 p.m. ET): Tiger was actually in the bunker off the tee and he hits a solid one from there. The ball finds the front of the green, leaving him 40-50 feet for birdie.

ON THE GREEN (12:21 p.m. ET): Wow, that was a good effort. That ball was on a good line, but just went over the right edge of the cup. But it’s a nice ho-hum par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7 under thru 15 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 14: Par 4, 485 yards

OFF THE TEE (11:56 a.m. ET): That’s driver and Tiger with a rare miss. This ball lands about 5 yards right of the fairway and digs down into some rough on a hill. It’ll depend on the lie, but that could be a trouble spot for TW.

APPROACH SHOT (12:02 p.m. ET): Tiger from 198 yards … he tries to rip at this one with a 9-iron and the lie was too horrible. He gets this one out there down the fairway, but he’ll have a good 40 yards for his third shot.

AROUND THE GREEN (12:05 p.m. ET): Tiger’s bogey-free round may be over soon. That pitch is mediocre, as it comes up a good 20 feet short. He’ll have to drain that to save par.

ON THE GREEN (12:10 p.m. ET): From 23 feet … Nope. A good roll, but this one is a touch too far right. That’s a bogey, and not an easy one to swallow. But he’s still got opportunities left.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7 under thru 14 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 13: Par 3, 183 yards

OFF THE TEE (11:46 a.m. ET): He’s not stopping. Tiger fires this right at the flag. The ball checks up quickly, but he has 15 feet up the hill for birdie. Another good look.

ON THE GREEN (11:53 a.m. ET): Tiger makes a run at that one, but the ball dives to the right as it nears the cup. There was some speed on that one, too. Tiger ran that 3 feet by, but he does bury that for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 8 under thru 13 (9 under overall, T-5)

Hole No. 12: Par 4, 280 yards

OFF THE TEE (11:33 a.m. ET): That was pretty much Tiger’s first bad swing today. He takes iron out here and flails that one to the right. We’re not sure where that is in the right rough, but it’s definitely not where he wanted. His upcoming shot depends on lie and angle.

APPROACH SHOT (11:38 a.m. ET): Tiger had 40 yards for his second shot and has to play this delicately. And he does. That pitch lands short of the green, rolls on and finishes about 5 feet beyond the hole. Another great birdie look awaits.

ON THE GREEN (11:43 a.m. ET): Yes, yes, yes. He walks that one in (actually from 8 feet) and this place is erupting. Nobody else on the course is better than 4 under today. Tiger is one shot back of second place.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 8 under thru 12 (9 under overall, T-5)

Hole No. 11: Par 5, 535 yards

OFF THE TEE (11:16 a.m. ET): Tiger’s not even looking at these drives anymore. This is just a perfect driver down the left side of the fairway. Perfect position.

APPROACH SHOT (11:21 a.m. ET): From just inside 230 yards… Tiger plays a beautiful high cut, and this ball lands about 30 feet beyond the pin and trickles a little bit beyond. He’ll have about 40 feet for eagle.

ON THE GREEN (11:28 a.m. ET): Tiger runs this one by about 5 feet by, but he buries the comebacker. That’s another birdie. This is a serious heater he’s on today.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 7 under thru 11 (8 under overall, T-8)

Hole No. 10: Par 4, 431 yards

OFF THE TEE (11:02 a.m. ET): An iron off the tee, and this is a pretty one down the left side of the fairway. Textbook.

APPROACH SHOT (11:06 a.m. ET): Tiger hits this one a little right from just under 150 yards, but it’s only 15-20 feet right and pin-high. So another solid birdie look approaches.

ON THE GREEN (11:11 a.m. ET): That was not a great read. Tiger misses to the right and runs this one 3 feet by. But that par comebacker gives him no troubles.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 6 under thru 10 (7 under overall, T-11)

Hole No. 9: Par 5, 585 yards

OFF THE TEE (10:44 a.m. ET): Tiger goes driver and almost picks up the tee before he’s done with his follow through. He was that confident in how he hit that shot. With good reason, as this finishes way down there on the right side of the fairway.

APPROACH SHOT (10:50 a.m. ET): Tiger takes a rip at this one from 256 yards and this is a high launch. The ball trickles inches over the green in two. Tiger will almost certainly putt from there and have about 40 feet for eagle.

AROUND THE GREEN (10:55 a.m. ET): That one was never on-line, but it’s a great lag. He’ll tap in for birdie.

ON THE GREEN (10:56 a.m. ET): That’s a tap-in birdie and Tiger is out in 30!!! Stats: 6/7 fairways, 8/9 GIR and 11 putts. Those are some tasty numbers.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 6 under thru 9 (7 under overall, T-11)

Hole No. 8: Par 3, 245 yards

OFF THE TEE (10:34 a.m. ET): Tiger hit that a bit left of where he wanted, but it’s a good miss. The ball still catches the green and rolls out. He’s about 30 feet left of the cup, solid shot on such a long hole.

ON THE GREEN (10:41 a.m. ET): That putt was always low and right, but the ball runs maybe 2.5 feet by and he cleans up for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under thru 8 (6 under overall, T-17)

Hole No. 7: Par 4, 453 yards

OFF THE TEE (10:22 a.m. ET): The 3-wood off the tee here is another good one. This ball ends up perfectly down the right side of the fairway.

APPROACH SHOT (10:26 a.m. ET): Tiger gets aggressive and it pays off. He attacks this back-right pin, and the ball threatens to hop over the green but it stops quickly and trickles a bit back. It ends up about 10 feet from the cup. Another great birdie look approaches.

ON THE GREEN (10:30 a.m. ET): OH GOODNESS. Tiger buries that left-to-right slider for birdie and we’re in full panic mode.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under thru 7 (6 under overall, T-17)

Hole No. 6: Par 4, 393 yards

OFF THE TEE (10:06 a.m. ET): Tiger goes stinger iron off the tee here, and this is ideal down the left side of the fairway.

APPROACH SHOT (10:09 a.m. ET): That was a foot or two from being a well-executed shot. Tiger lands this about pin high on the back, but the ball releases and just trickles over the green, catches a slope and goes down a bit of a hill. That’ll leave a tricky chip. If his ball had a tiny less speed, he’s probably putting from 20 feet for birdie.

AROUND THE GREEN (10:18 a.m. ET): After getting a ruling as his ball was around a sprinkler head, Tiger putts from that low beyond the green. The ball comes up about 6 feet short. That left for par.

ON THE GREEN (10:20 a.m. ET): No problem. Walked in that par putt. That’s an important save.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under thru 6 (5 under overall, T-25)

Hole No. 5: Par 4, 474 yards

OFF THE TEE (9:54 a.m. ET): Tiger takes driver and nukes this down the left side of the fairway. He is feeling it!!

APPROACH SHOT (9:59 a.m. ET): That’s from about 160 yards and this one finishes about 15 feet right and beyond the cup. Good stuff.

ON THE GREEN (10:03 a.m. ET): OH YEAH, BABY!!! Tiger drains another one. And he is ON FIRE!!

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under thru 5 (5 under overall, T-25)

Hole No. 4: Par 4, 371 yards

OFF THE TEE (9:40 a.m. ET): An iron off the tee for Tiger and it’s a laser down the left side of the fairway. Beauty.

APPROACH SHOT (9:45 a.m. ET): Oh, that was aggressive. Pin was in front with water guarding before the green, but Tiger lands this short of the pin, and the ball rolls about 8 feet left of the cup. A great birdie look upcoming.

ON THE GREEN (9:48 a.m. ET): BOOM! Tiger gets that to drop in the left side. Another birdie and we’re really off here.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under thru 4 (4 under overall, T-34)

Hole No. 3: Par 3, 155 yards

OFF THE TEE (9:31 a.m. ET): Tiger aims about 20 feet right of the pin, and that’s exactly where the ball goes. A 20-25 footer right of the cup for birdie.

ON THE GREEN (9:37 a.m. ET): That one was always a little left. The ball trickles harmlessly just beyond the cup. An easy par here.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 3 (3 under overall, T-47)

Hole No. 2: Par 5, 536 yards

OFF THE TEE (9:14 a.m. ET): A 3-wood here leaks a little left and the ball barely ends up in the rough, but the lie looks really good. He should still be able to go for this one in two.

APPROACH SHOT (9:21 a.m. ET): Tiger does indeed go for it from 244 yards here, and this one is just a little too far left. That looks to be in the left front bunker. Plenty of green to work with from there, though, to a front-right pin.

AROUND THE GREEN (9:25 a.m. ET): The ball was in the rough and Tiger deftly chips about 5 feet short of the cup. A great look for a birdie-birdie start.

ON THE GREEN (9:27 a.m. ET): He. Walks. It. In. That was a classic birdie, and it’s now a birdie-birdie start!

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 2 (3 under overall, T-46)

Hole No. 1: Par 4, 440 yards

OFF THE TEE (9:02 a.m. ET): Tiger takes driver, and that’s a beauty down the right-center. Great start.

APPROACH SHOT (9:07 a.m. ET): That’s a wedge from 105 yards, and not too shabby. That balls checks up about 10 feet short of the pin. A decent look upcoming.

ON THE GREEN (9:11 a.m. ET): That was actually 15 feet, but Tiger drains it! That’s an opening birdie. The ideal start here.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 1 (2 under overall, T-56)

Pre-round

Tiger is on the range!

Tiger has not arrived yet, that we are aware of. For now, here’s a funny story about Mackenzie Hughes, TW’s playing competitor today, meeting Tiger for the first time earlier this year…
