Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed hug it out before Farmers Insurance Open pairing

SAN DIEGO – Saturday’s most anticipated pairing for Round 3 of the Farmers Insurance Open had nothing to do with the leaderboard at Torrey Pines.

Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed had a well-publicized falling out at the 2018 Ryder Cup in Paris, where the previously-powerful American duo did not play together in the loss to Europe.

Thus the excitement as soon as tee times were announced and the two were paired together for Saturday’s Round 3 of the Farmers Insurance Open, along with John Chin.

Reed spoke with the New York Times shortly after the matches ended and criticized captain Jim Furyk’s decision to split them up, placing plenty of the blame on Spieth as well. He said the issue was obviously with Spieth not wanting to play with him.

The issue probably won’t be sorted overnight, but Reed and Spieth started the day on a peaceful note with a surprising embrace on the first tee. Check out the video below.
